When we first came across Vanessa Barrag~ao’s work, we were blown away at the intricate details of her textile installations. Inspired by the seaside town where she grew up in Albufeira, Portugal, Barrag~ao creates these captivating artworks that emulate the environment of coral reefs, a nod to her connection to the ocean. She employs ancestral techniques – like latch hook, felt, knitting, macrame, and crochet – and chooses to use wasted/deadstock materials in an effort to fight against pollution and the impact of global warming on our oceans and planet.
